safety and quality
in the nuclear supply chain

Nuclear Quality Standard Association

The Nuclear Quality Standard Association is a nonprofit association jointly launched by Framatome and Bureau Veritas in January 2011.

Open to major nuclear utilities, to major nuclear engineering and manufacturers and to TIC (Testing, Inspection and Certification) companies, NQSA promotes the use of the ISO 19443 standard.

The creation of the NQSA was prompted by the fact that many nuclear professionals were facing numerous challenges in terms of safety and quality of nuclear supply chains.

More than 10 years later, the fight against climate change and the need of de-carbonization put nuclear energy on the spot. Today, there is increasing and widespread recognition that nuclear will feature in the future global energy mix and make its contribution to sustainable development. Nuclear industry is essential for clean energy transition.

This will lead to new emerging nuclear challenges among which the availability of a high skilled supply chain able to meet high quality expectations from regulators and utilities.

It is important for the supply chain
to be re-installed in a global environment and to mitigate the impact of

Loss of expertise in traditional supply chain due to lack of new constructions in recent years
A diversified and complex
supply chain due to globalization effects
New supply chain players
without nuclear experience

ISO19443, as a unique recognized quality management system, helps the nuclear sector and its supply chain to overcome these difficulties.

Holding an accredited IS019443 certification is the best way for a supplier to demonstrate its commitment to nuclear safety.
